Jewish Law

Differences between a first and second marriage

06.03.17

Question

Hello. I would like to know the difference in the laws of marriage when singles get married and when divorcees with children from a previous marriage get married. Thank you.

Response

In a second marriage, the seven days of feasting are not observed. Also, Ashkenazi Jews do not have the canopy outside under the skies. There are also changes in the Ketuba, but this is arranged by the officiating rabbi.
