Can repentance cancel one’s fate?

06.09.18

Question

We know that everything is determined before a person is born in the world. If so, can a person change whatever was decreed upon him in advance during Elul and the Ten Days of Repentance? How does that happen?

Answer

Repentance, prayer and charity can avert the evil decree.

Of course one can change one’s decree for the better depending upon one’s actions. The more a person rectifies himself during the year, the more of a chance that his decree will change.
