Customs and food - Stuffed Cabbage

25.02.19

Question

there are reasons for certain foods eaten at certain times. why is it a custom to eat stuffed cabbage (called chaluptchas) on simchas torah? there are similar customs like kreplach on erev yom kippur and hoshana rabbah that I have found sources for. but not for stuffed cabbage.

Answer

To the Questioner,

Similar to kreplach, the reason for the minhag of Chulubtches is to show that the main ingrediant - the meat - is really hidden in the inside.
