Why is there no fast of Rabbi Akiva as there is for Gedalia. Rabbi Akiva's terrible mistake concerning Bar Cochba led to more Jews being killed proportionally than in the holocaust and of course the destruction of the temple. Furthermore he refused to join various leaders asking Bar Cochba to surrender
On the aftermath of the Jerusalem synagogue massacre
Recently there were a number of tragedies in Israel, including attacks, causing much pain and suffering. Everyone says that the Messiah is truly almost here, and that those who were killed in the synagogue were an atonement before the coming of the Messiah… I ask myself, how different were the disasters and terrorist attacks in our days from those that occurred 70 years ago or 2000 years ago... during the Holocaust and the Inquisition, which were much worse. Probably then they also said that the Messiah was at the door and would soon come. They did not know that even after 70 years and more, the Messiah still wouldn’t have come and the exile would still continue. So how are we supposed to be cheered up by such statements? How different is the present from the past ?? I'd love to hear your answer.
If people were punished for their sins in the Holocaust, then are the Nazis guiltless?
During a lecture I watched, the question was addressed to Rabbi Yosef Ben-Porat: “Where was G-d during the Holocaust?” From watching the video it seems that his view is that the Jewish people were punished during these days of wrath and experienced the horrors of the Holocaust due to their assimilating and deviating from the straight path. The Nazis carried out the punishment and were merely tools implementing the Creator’s punishment. If this is the case, then we have to accept heaven’s decrees, and how can we complain against the Nazis? This sounds absurd and incomprehensible, but there is no other logical conclusion from his well explained and organized lecture. Nevertheless, we say may the Germans and Nazis’ names and memory be blotted out. Isn’t this remark implying defiance of G-d’s Will? His words are incomprehensible. His excellent and coherent explanation and his conclusion seem to completely contradict each other.
The World is a Cruel Place for Jews
What of all the holocausts, inquisitions , pogroms, mass murders and persecutions? I’m scared of a world full of pain but I have nowhere to run.
Proof that G-d Exists
How can I prove to others that G-d exists?
Rabbi, I know this sounds dumb, but occasionally I have doubts because I hear what atheists have to say. Can you explain to me what is the Jewish view of evolution? I heard certain rabbis say that it is all nonsense while others say that evolution could have happened. For instance, after the Tower of Babel was destroyed, some people were punished and became monkeys. So what is the truth?
Authenticity of Judaism
How should I address the following question: Why can’t it be that three thousand years ago, some mad grandfather wrote the Torah scroll and told his sons that he was the only remnant of a war that killed the entire Jewish people apart from him, or gave another explanation regarding the rest of the people, ie Later on, among them were people who called themselves prophets, made wars, etc. this is an explanation for all of the archaeological findings of the kings of the House of David,” etc.
How can the Torah be true? There are some contradictions!
The Torah is full of contradictions, for instance, the flood. There isn’t enough water in the world to make a deluge in half the world. How did the animals come to Noah? How did they have food to eat? How could the Ark hold such heavy cargo? How did they have room for the millions of animal species? And many other questions like these. And do not say it was a miracle; I'm not interested in all sorts of crooked answers. I just want to know the Torah’s simple meaning. If you can not answer, then the Torah is refuted. Thank you.
