What was King Solomon’s sin?

06.03.17

Question

Hello. In Kings I 11:8, it says: “And so he did for all of his alien wives who offered incense and slaughtered sacrifices to their deities.” Does it really say that? If so ... I've learned in the past that he also sinned, so did I learn wrong?

Answer

King Solomon did not rebuke his wives who were born non-Jewish, had converted and then reverted to their old ways and built houses of idol worship. His sin was that he should have dealt with them firmly.
