Is It Permissible to Pray While Seated?

Ideally, one should be very careful to pray the Amidah while standing only. Only when it is absolutely impossible to pray while standing, is it permissible to pray while seated (see Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 95:9 and Mishnah Berurah there).

However, even when praying seated, it is important to ensure that the feet are positioned close together. If possible, one should at least stand during the bowing and the three steps at the conclusion of the prayer (see Shulchan Aruch and Rema Orach Chaim 95:5, and Mishnah Berurah 97:62).
