Blessing on Gluten-Free Bread

AA

Question

Hello and blessings. I would like to ask what blessing I should recite for gluten-free bread. Should I say the usual "hamotzi" or is it "shehakol"? I am not gluten-sensitive, but I prefer it. Am I allowed to eat gluten-free bread at Shabbat meals and recite birkat hamazon afterwards? Also, what blessing do we recite on gluten-free pasta? Thank you.

Answer

Hello and blessings

If it contains no flour from the five species of grain, the blessing is "shehakol" and it does not fulfill the obligation of Shabbat meals. One should not refrain from eating bread on Shabbat if they are not gluten-sensitive.

The same applies to pasta; if it contains no flour from the five species of grain, the blessing is "shehakol".

Best regards,

Benjamin Shmueli
