Dough Fried in a Pan

AA

Question

Hello Rabbi, I wanted to ask what the blessing is for dough that is fried in a pan made of flour and water. In fact, this refers to Indian bread that is fried in a pan. The original name of this bread is chapati. The dough consists of 1 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of water. Is the blessing "hamotzi" or "mezonot"?

Answer

Hello and greetings

If only a little oil is added to the pan so that the dough does not burn, the blessing is "hamotzi."

If it is fried in deep oil, it is preferable to avoid eating it on its own and instead eat it within a bread meal, although, according to the letter of the law, the blessing is "mezonot."

With blessings,

Binyamin Shmueli
