Question

Hello and blessings!!! As Yom Kippur approaches, I wanted to ask, I am married and in the seventh month of my pregnancy, I would like to know if it is permissible to sleep with my husband in the same bed???? Of course without intimacy, are the prohibitions that apply the same as those during nida, is any contact forbidden???? I would appreciate a prompt response!!!! Thank you and may you have a good sealing.

Answer

Hello and blessings,

One of the five afflictions we are commanded to observe on Yom Kippur is the avoidance of marital relations. In doing so, we fulfill a practical aspect of self-denial according to the commandments of the Torah, and through this, we merit atonement for sins related to such matters, alongside repentance.

This commandment includes, in addition to abstaining from sexual relations, the conduct of separation customary during times when a woman is prohibited to her husband. Throughout the daytime hours of Yom Kippur, the poskim (halachic authorities) are divided on whether contact between spouses is prohibited. However, sleeping in the same bed is universally forbidden throughout the day.
