Is It Permissible to Interlock One's Hands?

AA

Question

Hello esteemed rabbi! I have heard from several people that one should not interlock their hands as it supposedly closes off abundance or something similar. Is this true? If so, is there a source for this? Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings,

According to the law, it is permissible to interlock the fingers of the right hand with the left, but according to Kabbalah, one should avoid this.

Sources: See Ben Ish Chai (Year Two, Parashat Pinchas, Paragraph 18) in the name of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, that one should not interlock the fingers of their hands, right over left. In the book Ma'avor Yabok (Sh'fatay Tzedek, Chapter 14), it is written that neither a healthy person nor especially a sick person should interlock the fingers of the right hand with the left because they represent higher, right and left forces, and they should not be mixed. Also, refer to what is mentioned in the book Shemirat HaGuf VeHaNefesh Part 1 (Section 78).

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
