Niddah During Pregnancy - Questions About Stains
Question
Hello, I am a bit "new" to the laws of niddah.. I started observing it since I got married three months ago and now I have discovered that I am pregnant. My question is how to conduct myself during this time? Do I need to observe niddah and go to the mikvah? Another question - I had a blood stain on my underwear a few days ago and it has ended. Do I need to observe niddah as usual and immerse in the mikvah? Is it true that I need to count 7 clean days after at least 4 days? Thank you very much and happy holiday!!
Answer
Hello and blessings
Congratulations on your marriage and thank Hashem for your pregnancy, may you merit a healthy and living offspring who fears Heaven. I was happy to read that you are observing taharah; you are fortunate and blessed, as the great mitzvah is conducive to having offspring who fear Hashem, adorned with proper attributes.
Once you are pregnant and do not have a cycle or stains that are tam'ei (ritually impure), you are considered tahor (pure) until childbirth. A stain found on a colored underwear does not render one tam'ei; similarly, a stain that is not larger than a coin of a shekel does not render one tam'ei, provided it is red or black; a stain that is light brown or yellow does not render one tam'ei.
In any case where the stain is on white underwear, it is advisable to show the stain to a rabbi knowledgeable in these laws, who can determine if the stain is tahor or not.
If the stain is tam'ei, you must count seven clean days after four days from the stain or the start of your cycle; sometimes the stain comes from an injury in the vagina, and one should consult a nurse who checks the vagina to see if there is indeed an injury, and then we attribute the blood to the injury.
I would be happy to assist further.
Happy holiday,
