Must One Make Havdalah in the Sukkah?

According to the Mishnah Berurah (Section 202, Note 36 and Shaar HaTziyon, Note 57), based on the Taz (Note 14), one must make Havdalah in the Sukkah since throughout the year one makes Havdalah in his home. However, those who are accustomed to hearing Havdalah year-round in the synagogue may also hear it in the synagogue during Sukkot.

However, Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, zt”l, holds that fundamentally it is permissible to make Havdalah and drink the wine outside the Sukkah. Nevertheless, one who is stringent and makes Havdalah only in the Sukkah is praiseworthy (Responsa Yabia Omer, Part 1, Section 65, and Chazon Ovadiah on Sukkot, Pages 123-140).
