Prayer and Blessings
Morning Blessings on Yom Kippur
Question
Hello and blessings, do we recite the morning blessings and kriat shema (the Shema) as usual on Yom Kippur? Thank you for your assistance and guidance.
Answer
Greetings,
1. One recites the morning blessings as usual, and although there is a prohibition against wearing leather shoes, it is permissible to recite she'asa li kol tzorki (the blessing that says Hashem has made all my needs) (Mishnah Berurah, Orach Chaim 581:1; the practice of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l, as noted in Yabia Omer, Vol. 9, Orach Chaim, 8).
2. One says kriat shemain bed as usual.
