Prayer and Blessings

Blessing on Oatmeal with Milk

AA

Question

Hello, I would like to ask which blessing is recited first and last over raw oatmeal with milk or yogurt and additional ingredients like cornflakes and nuts? Additionally, if I recite Hamotzi and eat a sandwich, and then want to eat the oatmeal as described, should I recite Birkat Hamazon and then a separate blessing on the oatmeal, or is it considered part of the meal and no additional blessing is needed (even if it has become more significant than the bread in quantity and importance)?

Answer

Greetings and blessings. Oatmeal eaten in the middle of a meal does not require a blessing. Raw oatmeal with milk outside of a meal requires the blessing "Ha'adama" (the blessing for produce of the ground).
