If We Did Not Build a Sukkah, Am I Required to Make Kiddush?

AA

Question

Shalom honorable Rabbi, In our home, we do not build a sukkah. How should I conduct myself regarding Kiddush? Is a second blessing over bread necessary on the holiday as well? Can I recite the Shehecheyanu blessing when lighting the holiday candles since we do not bless over the sukkah? If my mother lights and blesses, am I required to bless separately? What additional prayers should be added? Do we already say 'Meshiv Haruach'? Thank you very much and Chag Sameach.

Answer

Shalom and blessing. Women are exempt from the mitzvah of sukkah, but they are not exempt from the festival of Sukkot itself. The sanctity that men have only in the sukkah women can merit even at home without the sukkah. Therefore, you may make Kiddush as usual and light the holiday candles with the appropriate blessings. However, if your mother lights and blesses, you do not need to recite the blessing separately. The Shehecheyanu blessing is recited during the holiday Kiddush. The prayers for the holiday differ as you will see in the prayer book for the Three Pilgrimage Festivals. On the intermediate days of the festival, one prays the weekday prayers but adds the Ya'aleh Veyavo prayer. The prayer 'Meshiv Haruach' is recited only on Simchat Torah. Chag Sameach, Binyamin Shmueli
