Shoes in the Bedroom

AA

Question

I wanted to know if there is a prohibition against having shoes in the bedroom? And if so, why? Thank you.

Answer

Greetings, It is permitted to leave shoes in the bedroom; however, according to Kabbalah, one should not place shoes, pants, or similar items near one’s head while sleeping (Ibbud HaKodesh Part 1, Siman 7, Se'if 113). Additionally, it is stated that one should not sleep with shoes on, as doing so imparts a taste of death (Yoma 78b; cited in Ben Ish Chai, Year 2, Parshat Pinchas, Se'if 16; and in Kaf HaChaim, Yoreh De'ah 147:211. See also Shu"t Yabia Omer, Part 9, Orach Chaim 97:23).

Blessings, Hillel Meirs
