Dream of Father in a White Undershirt Embracing Me

AA

Question

My father passed away, and he appears to me in a dream day after day. In the first dream, he wore a white undershirt and hugged me, and the next day he wore a white undershirt with black spots, and I hugged him. Thank you.

Answer

To the inquirer, Please forgive the delay in response. Sometimes, a departed soul comes to a relative in a dream to inform them that they are well and not to worry. Therefore, it is possible that your father’s soul came to you in the dream to convey a message. According to your description, the main message he wished to convey was that he is in a good place, with Hashem’s blessing, and how much he loves you. As I understand it, when the deceased appears beautiful and well in the dream to the dreamer, it is a good sign. Since your father appeared to you shortly after his passing and looked well, this likely indicates he wanted to hint that he is in a good place, blessed by Hashem. Especially as you noted he was dressed in white, which symbolizes purity. In the second dream, by hugging your father, you expressed, even subconsciously, your love for him. Such experiences are real at a deep level of the soul; although they manifest in dreams through various images not physically present, the emotions and spiritual connection they awaken are indeed real. Therefore, you should feel that the dream was genuine, cherish the experience, and rejoice that your father is in a good place and continues to love you from above. Additionally, Kabbalah teaches that when a parent leaves children in this world who perform good deeds, it benefits the parent in the next world. It is possible that your father wished to hint that you continue performing good deeds in this world during this first year after his passing, thereby bringing him merit and satisfaction in the world above. Regarding the black spots you saw on the white garment in the second dream, this may hint at past matters that still require rectification; the opportunity for such rectification is here in this world. Thus, your father hinted that you should continue this first year to perform mitzvot and good deeds on his behalf so that through your good deeds he may merit in the world above and “cleanse” the dark spots that impede receiving complete goodness. May you always merit to bring satisfaction to your father with your good deeds in this world.

With blessings, Rabbi Nachum
