Praying Without a Kippah Unintentionally
Question
Hello, if I prayed Ma'ariv at home and only after finishing the prayer did I notice that I did not have a kippah on my head, what is the halachic ruling on this? And can I rectify it?
Thank you very much and may you be strong and blessed.
Answer
Greetings, after the fact you have fulfilled your obligation, and there is no need to repeat the prayer. Sources: This is the ruling of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, in Yabia Omer, Part 6 (Orach Chaim 15:6) and Part 9 (Orach Chaim 1:6), with his agreement recorded in Netzach Yosef Part 1. Also see Yeshuat Moshe Part 3 (Siman 15), Netzach Yosef Part 1 (Siman 3), Hilchot Shlomo Part 1 (Chapter 2, Section 16), Or LeTzion Part 2 (page 65, beginning "Umi"), and Alinu LeShabeach Part 2 (at the end of the book, Teshuva 33).
