How Can a Woman Perform a Karet Rectification?
Question
How can a woman perform a karet rectification?
Answer
Greetings and blessings, The true answer is that the primary rectification for all sins, transgressions, and crimes, whatever they may be, is teshuvah (repentance). Teshuvah consists of deep and intense regret from the heart over the sin, acceptance for the future to do everything possible not to sin again with these transgressions, as well as confessing to Hashem and asking for His mercy and forgiveness. The deeper and stronger the regret, and the more it arises from love for Hashem, the more the sins are erased and turned into merits, leaving no trace. Since we are not always certain that our teshuvah is perfect and done from deep love for Hashem, it is necessary to add to the rectification of sins by specific means as follows, so that we should not have to suffer afflictions for sins. Several pieces of advice have been stated in holy books; here are some of them:
A. Performing acts of kindness physically—visiting the sick, volunteering in Ezer MiTzion and similar organizations, cooking for the poor, soliciting charity for needy families at their homes, and more.
B. Strict adherence to the proper observance of Shabbat in all its details, including honoring Shabbat with appropriate food and festive meals.
C. Learning Torah all night (this is less applicable to women; women can instead give charity to a Torah scholar to learn on their behalf all night).
D. Many fasts (not generally recommended); these can be compensated by charity according to the number of fasts one must undertake.
E. Special prayer services and rectifications performed occasionally in Kabbalistic yeshivas.
Good success, Binyamin Shmueli
