Which Name is Preferable for a Daughter, Agam or Moriah?

Choosing Between the Names Agam and Moriah According to Halacha

AA

Question

Hello, dear Rabbi, I would like to know which name is better according to Judaism: Agam or Moriah, and why. Thank you in advance.

Answer

Greetings, In principle, it is not recommended to give a new name that has no established origin and has not been traditionally used over the generations, unless a rabbi knowledgeable in names approves the use of that name. Therefore, the name Agam is not recommended. However, regarding the name Moriah, although it is new, it is written in the book Yeshuot Mordechai (page 118) by Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, of blessed memory, that the name Moriah is good for a daughter. Hence, anyone who wishes to choose this name has a substantial precedent to rely upon. Blessings, Hillel Meirs
