How Often Should One Recite a Blessing?
Question
How long does a blessing last? For example: I recited "shehakol" and drank water after 15 minutes; do I need to recite it again if I want to drink again?
Regarding the final blessing - what is the measurement that requires a final blessing? How can one identify this measurement and within how much time must I eat or drink to be able to recite a final blessing?
Can the Rabbi recommend a clarified book on this topic?
Answer
Greetings,
If you intended, at the time of the blessing, to drink again, you do not need to recite the blessing again. If you did not intend to do so, then you must recite it again, provided you are thirsty. However, if you are drinking without feeling thirsty, you do not need to recite it under any circumstance.
The required measurement for the final blessing is 86 ml, which is about half a disposable cup, and you should drink it without significant delay, for a maximum of two sips. Regarding food, the measurement is similar to the size of a small matchbox, and after eating this amount, you are required to recite a final blessing.
