Blessing on Drinks After Birkat Hamazon
Question
Hello,
1. There are products such as cornflakes with milk, for which I recite the initial blessing Shehakol, but because of the issue of the measure for the final blessing, I exempt them by drinking a reviit of water and afterward reciting Borei Nefashot. If I know in advance that this is what I will do, can the initial blessing on the cornflakes, Shehakol, also exempt the water with which I will finish?
2. When I wash for a meal and recite Hamotzi, it also exempts the drinking during that meal. If I have already recited Birkat Hamazon, do I need to recite Shehakol on drinks that I began drinking during the meal?
Answer
To the esteemed questioner,
1. Yes.
2. Yes, one must recite Shehakol again if you have already recited Birkat Hamazon. However, it is proper to finish all the drinking you wish to drink first, and only afterward recite Birkat Hamazon.
With blessing,
Rabbi Nachum
