Do Women Need to Recite Hallel on Rosh Chodesh?

AA

Question

Hello, honored Rabbi,
I would like to know whether one should recite Hallel on Rosh Chodesh according to the Sephardic custom, and if so, whether it may be said during private prayer.

Thank you very much

Answer

Good month,

Women are not obligated to recite Hallel on Rosh Chodesh (Beur Halacha, siman 422, seif 2, s.v. Hallel), and if they wish, they may recite it even individually. However, according to the Sephardic custom, one does not recite a blessing over it, neither at the beginning nor at the end (Shulchan Aruch there, seif 2).

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
