Preparations Before Immersion

AA

Question

Shalom and thank you,

Until now, I have almost always done all the preparations the night before immersion, and on the day of immersion I would sit in a bathtub of water for about 20 minutes.
I wanted to ask: Is sitting in water a requirement? And if so, can that also be done the night before, or does it need to be done specifically on that same day?

Thank you very much,
and a yasher koach

Answer

Shalom u-vrachah

The hair-washing should, ideally, be done close to immersion and not the day before. However, it is possible to do all the preparations, such as removing hair and cutting nails, the night before, and then to wash and do the hair-washing on the same day.

In cases of need, it is permitted to bring the hair-washing forward by one day, but care must be taken that there is nothing interposing, and one must bathe again close to immersion and examine the body and hair carefully to ensure that there is no interposition and no tangles.

Much success,

Benjamin Shmueli
