Borei Minei Mezonot on Croutons

Hello,
I am eating croutons with a salad. Do I need to wash my hands and recite haMotzi, and then Birkat Hamazon, like with bread?

On store-bought croutons, one recites Borei Minei Mezonot and not haMotzi. According to most opinions, when croutons are eaten in a salad, one should recite Mezonot on the croutons and the appropriate blessing on the salad.
If the croutons are homemade, one should recite haMotzi on the croutons and eat at least a kezayit of them, and there is no need to recite a blessing on the other items.
