An Additional 20 Minutes Before the Onset of Shabbat?

AA

Question

Is it true that when Shabbat begins, men have an additional 20 to 30 minutes before the start of Shabbat?

Thank you in advance.

Answer

Hello

According to the letter of the law, the time for the onset of Shabbat is sunset. When a woman lights candles, she accepts Shabbat upon herself earlier, and this applies to all the laws of Shabbat. It is also proper for a man to include himself in this acceptance, because the matter of adding from the weekday to the holy day is very important.

But if he does not accept Shabbat at the time of the woman’s candle lighting, in any case he should not delay in accepting Shabbat until about ten minutes before sunset, since the clock and the times are not always precise, and one must leave a margin of time so as not to come, Heaven forbid, to inadvertent desecration of Shabbat.
