Is It Permitted for a Woman to Recite Selichot at Home Alone?

Question

Is it permitted for a woman to recite Selichot at home alone?

Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

It is permitted for a woman to recite Selichot individually, but she must be careful not to recite the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy in the verse "Vayeavor," unless she recites them with the cantillation notes (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 565:5, and Mishnah Berurah, note 12). She should also skip all the passages in Aramaic (Mishnah Berurah, siman 581, note 4). And according to the custom of Ashkenazim outside Jerusalem, one should not do Nefilat Apayim in a place where there is no Torah scroll.

A good final sealing,

Hillel Meirs
