Insomnia After Shema
Question
Hello, honored rabbi!
I have taken upon myself to recite the bedtime Shema, and sometimes I do not fall asleep for several hours after reciting Shema. For example, I recited it at 10:00, and until after 12:00 I am unable to fall asleep. I wanted to ask: in such a case, am I allowed to get up from bed to read something or even speak? Thank you in advance, and Shabbat shalom and a blessed one.
Answer
Hello and blessings.
If you do not fall asleep after some time, you may get up.
Before you go to sleep again, you should recite the first passage of Shema.
