May a Kohen Take Back His Divorced Wife

AA

Question

Hello,

I know that according to halacha a Kohen may in no way marry a divorcee. But if this is a couple, both under 30, who were married and have two children, ages 4 and 2, and then divorced. But they love one another very much and very much want to get back together. The husband is a Kohen. Is he permitted to take back his divorced wife? Or is his relationship with his divorced wife the same as with any divorcee?

Answer

Hello and blessings,

There is almost no way to permit a Kohen to marry his divorced wife unless a defect is found in the get or a defect in the kiddushin, in which case there is sometimes room to permit it. I recommend going to the offices of the Rabbanut to examine the matter in depth.

Blessings,

Benjamin Shmueli
