Praying the Amidah Alone: Is It Permitted to Pray Somewhat Aloud?
Question
Hello, I wanted to know: when I am praying the Amidah and I am alone, do I still need to pray silently? Or is it possible to pray a little louder, like the rest of the prayer?
Thank you very much.
Answer
Hello,
If you cannot concentrate unless you pray aloud, you are permitted to raise your voice in the Amidah as much as is necessary for concentration. However, this leniency applies only when you are praying alone. In a congregation, it is forbidden to let your voice be heard during the Amidah, even slightly, because it disturbs the other women praying.
