What Blessing Is Recited Over Fruits Blended in a Blender?
Question
Greetings,
1. What is the blessing for fruits that have been blended in a blender and have the same blessing (for example, all being tree fruits)?
2. What is the blessing for fruits that have been blended in a blender and have different blessings (for example, a banana and an apple)?
Thank you.
Answer
Greetings,
1. According to the custom of Sephardim, one should recite the blessing for tree fruits (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 211:7; see also Yabia Omer, Part 7, Orach Chaim 29). According to the custom of Ashkenazim, one should say "shehakol" (Rema and Mishnah Berurah there).
2. One should follow the majority—if most are of the tree variety, the blessing is "ha'etz," and if most are of the ground variety, the blessing is "ha'adamah" (see also Piskei Teshuvot 211, note 6). According to the custom of Ashkenazim, in any case, one should recite "shehakol," as mentioned above.
