Question

I wanted to ask if it is possible to get married on July 16, 2107? Thank you very much.

Answer

Hello,

This date corresponds to the 22nd of Tammuz, and according to the custom of the Sephardim and Eastern communities, it is allowed to get married during the days between the 17th of Tammuz and Rosh Chodesh Av. They only refrain from marrying from the night of Rosh Chodesh Av until after Tisha B’Av (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 561:2, Responsa Yabia Omer, part 6, Orach Chaim 53, and Responsa Yachaveh Da’at, part 1, 36). However, the custom among Ashkenazim is to avoid marrying already from the 17th of Tammuz (Rama, there).

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
