Question

Is a man allowed to recite the blessings for washing hands or over food without a shirt? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Answer

Hello,

It is preferable not to recite the blessing for the meal and the blessing of ma'ayin shalosh without a shirt (see *Ohr L'Tzion*, part 2, page 111, section 3).

For all other blessings, according to the letter of the law, it is permitted to recite them without a shirt; however, it is better, as a matter of piety, to recite them with a shirt.

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
