Entering a Cemetery for a Bride and Groom in the First Year

AA

Question

Hello, my husband and I have been married for less than a year. I understand that one is not permitted to enter a cemetery in the first year? Is this true? We have two memorial services this week. I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Answer

Hello and blessings,

It is permitted to enter without concern. Of course, Kohanim should not enter a cemetery.

A woman should not go to a cemetery during her menstrual cycle or while pregnant. If it is the memorial service for a very close family member, leniency may be granted.

Best regards,

Benjamin Shmueli
