Zichronot: When God “Remembers” What Truly Matters
Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits
Zichronot is not about God having a good memory, but about the reality and eternity of our actions. This piece explains that Hashem “remembers” what rises above human nature, such as acts done with struggle, restraint, and inner effort. Drawing on the Akeidah and the idea of eternity beyond nature, it reframes judgment on Rosh Hashanah as an evaluation of what was truly earned, what went against instinct, and what reflects real growth. Here, the hardest moments become the most eternal.
