Chanukah Day #2 | The Judge Who Chose Compassion

Rabbi YY Jacobson

When a war veteran with severe PTSD violated his probation, a judge in North Carolina faced an impossible decision: uphold the law or honor the human being before him. The judge did both — by sentencing the man to jail and then joining him in the cell for the entire night. What followed was not punishment, but healing, understanding, and a powerful lesson about empathy, leadership, and the courage to enter another person’s darkness with compassion.
