Noach - Names Galore
Rabbi Shlomo Farhi
At the end of Parashat Noach, the Torah lists the descendants of Noach and the nations that emerged after the flood. But one name stands out: Chatzermavet, meaning “Courtyard of Death.” Why would anyone give their child such a strange name? And does Rashi’s explanation that he was named after a place really solve the mystery?
