While nuts are a fantastic addition to your diet at any time of the year, Passover offers a unique opportunity to enjoy them even more, as we avoid chametz. It’s the perfect time to incorporate them into your meals.

We often overlook these tiny nutritional powerhouses, but it’s important to remember their impressive health benefits. Nuts are rich in healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals that support heart health and provide a powerful boost to overall well-being. They are packed with magnesium and potassium, both of which promote brain health.

One of the main advantages of nuts is their high fiber content, which aids digestion and promotes satiety. Additionally, nuts are excellent sources of antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative stress and inflammation. They are particularly rich in vitamin E and selenium, which support immune function and help prevent chronic diseases. Regular consumption of walnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, almonds, and essentially all nuts (preferably unsalted, since salt is our “enemy number one”) reduces bad cholesterol levels and lowers the risk of heart disease.

Speaking of cholesterol, did you know that nuts contain exceptionally high levels of heart-healthy fats? These are called unsaturated fats, and they help lower bad cholesterol while raising good cholesterol. It’s no wonder many nutritionists refer to nuts as “quick power stations” because of their dense nutritional value.

So how can you enjoy them during Passover? You can eat them as they are, or prepare these legendary energy balls that any child would be thrilled to receive:

Ingredients:

½ cup coarsely ground walnuts
½ cup coarsely ground pecans
1 cup coconut
½ cup almond flour
1 teaspoon vanilla or rum extract (according to preference, or both)
½ cup melted chocolate
¼ cup milk or water
½ cup vacuum-packed dates

Preparation Method:

Mix all the ingredients together. Roll the mixture into balls, coat them in coconut, and arrange them on a plate. Refrigerate for one hour, then serve.
