The Mishnah teaches that the key to receiving protection, blessing, and success from Above is through peace among us: “Hashem found no vessel that holds blessing for Israel except peace” (Uktzin 3:12).

Peace is not just a value. It is the foundation that allows blessing to enter our lives. When there is unity, we create a vessel that can hold divine goodness. But when, Heaven forbid, there is infighting, hatred, and division, we lose that vessel. Without it, we are left exposed, and the distance between us and blessing becomes much smaller.

Why Peace Is So Powerful

Peace is so beloved to Hashem that our Sages taught something astonishing. Even if, Heaven forbid, the Jewish people are engaged in idolatry, if there is peace among them, the attribute of judgment does not strike them.

As it is written: “Love peace and hate strife. Great is peace, for even at a time when Israel are worshipping idols, and there is peace among them, Hashem says: My desire is not to harm them” (Derekh Eretz Zuta).

This teaches us just how powerful unity truly is.

Prayers to Strengthen Love Among the Jewish People

We have gathered several prayers with one shared goal: to help us truly love every fellow Jew, increase unity, and bring more blessing into our lives.

The Chida’s Prayer

I hereby accept upon myself the positive commandment of “Love your fellow as yourself,” and I hereby love every one of the children of Israel as my own soul and with all my being. I now prepare my mouth to pray before the King of kings, Hashem.

I recall the standing at Har Sinai, as it is said (Deuteronomy 4:9–10): Only take utmost care and watch yourself closely, lest you forget the things your eyes saw and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life, and make them known to your children and your children’s children—the day you stood before Hashem your God at Horeb, when Hashem said to me, Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, so that they will learn to revere Me all the days that they live on the earth, and so that they will teach their children.

May it be Your will, Hashem our God and God of our ancestors, that You be filled with mercy toward us, and that You plant love and brotherhood, peace and friendship between us and all Israel, and make us into one, just as at Har Sinai there was peace among us, as it is written, “And Israel encamped there, facing the mountain,” like one person with complete unity.

So too, in Your abundant mercy, help us remove hatred, jealousy, and rivalry from among us. Help us love one another and bring peace between us. Just as at the Revelation at Har Sinai You purified us and sanctified us, so too purify us now. Sanctify us through Your commandments, and purify our thoughts and hearts for Your service.

Plant Your Torah within our hearts. Place Your awe upon us so that we do not sin. Awaken within us a deep love for Your Torah, and let it feel new to us each day, as though we are receiving it again with longing and joy.

Enlighten our eyes in Your Torah, attach our hearts to Your commandments, and unite our hearts to love and fear Your great Name. Redeem us in Your mercy, and grant us the merit to receive Your Torah, as it is said: “And all your children shall be students of Hashem, and great shall be your children’s peace.” May it be fulfilled speedily in our days, Amen.

Prayer of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk

Place in our hearts the ability to see the good in each of our friends, not their shortcomings. Help us speak to one another in a way that leads to truth and goodness. Let no hatred arise in our hearts toward one another.

Strengthen our love for You, and let everything we do bring You joy. Amen.

Prayer to Be Spared from Harmful Speech

Master of the world, may it be Your will, compassionate and gracious God, that You grant me today and every day the merit to guard my mouth and tongue from lashon hara and gossip, and from accepting such speech.

Help me avoid speaking about any individual, and certainly not about the Jewish people as a whole. Protect me from speaking falsehood, flattery, mockery, arguments, anger, arrogance, verbal harm, and public shaming.

Grant me the merit to speak only what is necessary for my body or my soul, and let all my words and actions be for the sake of Heaven.

Please also help me guard my ears and eyes from hearing or seeing things that are not aligned with Your will. Help me forget anything improper I may have heard or seen, and sanctify my senses so that they are used only for good and for mitzvot.

Prayer to Be Spared from Jealousy

May it be Your will, Hashem our God and God of our ancestors, that the jealousy of others not affect me, and that I not feel jealousy toward others. Help me avoid anger and protect me from the evil inclination.

Place in my heart humility, modesty, and fear of sin. Rebuild Your House, gather our exiles, redeem Your people, and bring us joy. Grant us our portion in Your Torah. Amen.

Prayer of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev for Motzaei Shabbat

This prayer, found in the writings of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev, is said on Motzaei Shabbat for success in the coming week.

God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, guard and protect Your people Israel from all harm. As the holy Shabbat departs, may the coming week be filled with faith, love of others, and closeness to You.

Strengthen us to believe in Your truths, to yearn for redemption, and to live with faith in the resurrection of the dead and in the prophecy of Moses.

Master of the world, You give strength to the weary. Give strength to Your people to serve You with joy. May the coming week bring health, blessing, success, kindness, children, life, and sustenance for us and for all Israel. Amen.

Guarding Our Speech: The Chafetz Chaim’s Prayer

Master of the world, may it be Your will that You help me guard my speech from all forms of forbidden words, including lashon hara and gossip, as the Torah commands.

Help me avoid falsehood, flattery, mockery, arrogance, anger, and quarrels. Protect me from causing harm through my words or embarrassing others, even when offering rebuke.

Guide me to speak only what is necessary and good, and let all my words be for the sake of Heaven.

A Path to Blessing Through Unity

The message is clear. Peace is not just a virtue, it is the vessel that holds all blessing.

When we choose unity, kindness, and love for one another, we open the door for protection, success, and divine goodness in our lives.
