God informed Noach that a flood would come and destroy the world, and commanded him to build an ark to save a remnant of humanity. In the end, the story is well known: the flood wiped out everything, and only those inside the ark survived.
A Flood of Confusion in Our Generation
We are living through a kind of “flood” — not of water or fire, but of confusion and powerful currents pulling our children into a dangerous whirlpool. Education at home has lost its balance. Many children no longer find their place in educational institutions. In society, they become increasingly entangled, drawn into situations and environments we never imagined our own children would enter — because “it won’t happen to mine.”
The language they use, with each other, with us, and toward other adults, is often coarse and increasingly disrespectful. Physical and verbal violence is rising, even among very young children. It is painful, it is alarming, and it is getting worse. Our children are filled with stimulation, constantly seeking excitement and adventure, often accompanied by real danger. They are not afraid, because they feel they have nothing to lose. The turbulence of life blinds them. Even if they don’t always appear this way, deep inside they are crying out, a silent cry only God truly hears: “Help us, we are in a flood.”
The Only Lifeline: Values and True Direction
Parents and educators, it is time to face the truth and change direction, from imagined paths to a path of truth. There is only one way to save our children from the flood raging inside and around us. That path is described in the words: “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” Any other path leads nowhere — dressed in illusions of beauty and temporary satisfaction.
The answer is values. A child who grows up without values is swept into the flood of life, with waves that spare no one. These are values that come from God Himself. Just as He entrusted us with our children, He also gave us the path to raise them, toward a healthy society, respect for others, proper conduct, and love among people. There is no alternative. Not modern educational trends, not intellectual formulas. This is the path chosen by the Creator so that we can live with love, unity, and dignity — not hatred, exclusion, or harm, but with healthy and meaningful lives as individuals and as a society.
Entering the Ark: Rebuilding Through Education
Where do we find this path? Beside us stands “Noach’s Ark.” Only those who enter it will be saved from the raging flood outside. This “ark” is built from the values of Judaism — the same values that guided our ancestors throughout generations. Any home or educational system that fails to teach “ways of pleasantness and paths of peace” risks harming its children, misleading them with illusions of happiness and fleeting satisfaction. These children grow up within the storm, and this is reflected in the state of our society.
We must not be ashamed of our Jewish identity. It is the only path that can build a society based on love, unity, respect, and moral integrity. This is the ark of our generation. It is time to restore what has been lost. It is time to bring values and ethical teachings, rooted in divine wisdom, back into our homes and schools. Only the Creator truly knows what is best for us, and He has laid out a secure path — a kind of “paradise in this world” that leads toward a higher one.
Every home and every educational institution can become a Noach’s Ark, capable of saving entire generations — if they choose to build on values, character development, and love for others. Let us begin to love every person without distinction. Let us understand that Judaism is not just belief, but a complete way of life that leads to purpose and lasting fulfillment, beginning here and now.
Education Grounded in Values
We must care for our children, and bring them into the ark filled with values, wisdom, and guidance from the ultimate source. Education is not physics or mathematics, nor is it limited to academic or textual study. Education is about values and character.
Do not be ashamed of your identity. Education grounded in authentic values is the only way to build a better society. Many paths may appear attractive, offering short-term pleasure, but ultimately they lead to disappointment. A path that is not rooted in “ways of pleasantness and peace” is a dead end.
Our children are crying out for help, while we remain focused on achievements, exams, degrees, and diplomas. These are important, but not at the expense of value-based education. We must teach what it means to speak responsibly, to avoid harmful speech, to manage emotions, to develop humility, and to treat others with dignity.
This is not a call for religious transformation. It is a call to pause, to step back from the relentless pace of life, and to return to a path of truth. This message is for both religious and secular alike, each in their own way.
Let us all enter the ark together, and not remain outside, exposed to the flood that is already here. Education rooted in values is the Noach’s Ark of our generation.
