American officials say skepticism is growing inside the White House over Iran’s proposed framework for renewing negotiations—one that prioritizes reopening the Strait of Hormuz while delaying discussion of the nuclear issue. According to a Reuters report, a U.S. official said President Donald Trump is dissatisfied with the proposal, noting that “it does not address the nuclear issue.”

That position aligns with additional reports suggesting Trump and his team are unlikely to accept the outline, which calls for first addressing the naval blockade and only later moving to broader concerns.

The Wall Street Journal similarly reported that U.S. officials view the proposal with caution, amid concerns that Tehran may not be negotiating in good faith. Sources added that Trump has emphasized Iran is not meeting his central demand: halting uranium enrichment and committing not to pursue nuclear weapons.

Despite the criticism, the proposal has not been formally rejected. U.S. officials are expected to continue contacts with Iran and provide a response in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has entered its second week, increasing pressure on the administration. Some senior officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, believe time is working in Washington’s favor, as pressure on Iran’s oil exports may push it toward concessions. Others, however, are calling for a return to military action.
