Healthy Homemade Chocolate with Hazelnuts: A Quick and Nutritious Sweet Treat

These sugar conscious chocolate bites are a delicious snack that support heart health and satisfies sweet cravings

aA

Who doesn't love chocolate, especially during stressful moments when a little sweetness feels like exactly what we need?

When you eat processed chocolate loaded with sugar, it often triggers an endless cycle of cravings, leaving you wanting more. When however you choose high quality, healthier chocolate, one piece, or at most two, is usually enough to satisfy the craving.

This delicious treat can be included in a detox program, making it a true win-win.

The addition of raw, unroasted nuts makes this recipe especially beneficial for heart and cardiovascular health thanks to their healthy fats. Years of research have linked regular nut consumption with a reduced risk of heart disease, certain types of cancer, gallstones, type 2 diabetes, and other health conditions.

A handful of nuts provides antioxidants, protein, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. If you're worried about calories, a sensible serving of about seven nuts per day can help promote satiety while supporting overall health.

With just four ingredients and seven minutes of preparation, you can create delicious, healthy, and satisfying chocolates at home.

Healthy Chocolate with Hazelnuts

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

  • ½ cup natural date syrup (silan)

  • 1 cup peeled hazelnuts, finely chopped

I prefer to buy whole hazelnuts and chop them at home using a grinder.

Instructions

  1. Gently heat the coconut oil, date syrup, and cocoa powder in a small saucepan for about 2 minutes, stirring until smooth and well combined.

  2. Avoid overheating the mixture.

  3. Add the chopped hazelnuts and stir until all the nuts are evenly coated with the chocolate mixture.

  4. Spoon the mixture into flexible silicone molds.

  5. Place in the freezer for about one hour, or until firm.

  6. Remove from the freezer and gently press the back of the silicone mold to release the chocolates directly into a container.

Taste one or two pieces and let your family join in for a taste test.

Store the remaining chocolates in the refrigerator or freezer.
