GPS disruption during the war (Photo: Chaim Goldberg/Flash90)After the many disruptions to GPS apps throughout the war, including intentional interference that caused navigation apps to suddenly place users at locations overseas, Waze is working on a solution.
According to a report today (Thursday) by the website "Geektime" and on Channel 14 News, the company is developing a feature meant to serve as a safety net for הישראלי drivers. According to the report, the new system is based on monitoring "jumps" and inconsistencies in users’ locations.
When the system detects many drivers in the same area whose locations are not continuous, it will classify the area as a GPS disruption hotspot. It will send out an alert, even an early one, allowing drivers to change their route before reaching the point where navigation becomes impossible. The alert will appear on the screen for 30 seconds with the explicit text "GPS disruptions in the area".
According to the report, the feature has begun appearing for users of the app’s beta version on Android and iOS devices. At this stage, the new capability is available exclusively in Israel.
