Inset: Sivan Rahav Meir We spend so much of life waiting for the next milestone. We wait to finish school, find a job, get married, raise our children, or finally achieve the goals we have been working toward.
But what if life is not only about reaching the destination?
Here is a beautiful idea I heard this Shabbat at the Shabbat table of my cousins in New York.
Every Journey Matters
Parshat Masei, which we read on Shabbat, carefully records every stage of the Jewish people's journey through the wilderness until they finally reach the Land of Israel.
The Torah does not focus only on the destination.
It carefully counts every stop along the way.
Moshe Rabbeinu teaches us a profound way of looking at life. We should not celebrate only the graduation ceremony, but also appreciate the years of learning that made it possible. We should not remember only the wedding day, but also the years of waiting, growing, and searching. We should treasure not only the joy of a baby's birth, but also the nine months that came before it.
The process is just as meaningful as the result.
Be Present Where You Are
The journey is not wasted time. It is valuable time, filled with opportunities to grow, learn, and become the people we are meant to be.
The Rebbe of Kotzk expressed this idea beautifully:
"I am never on the way to anywhere. I am always in a place."
In other words, wherever we are, that place deserves our full attention. Every stage of life has purpose. Every moment matters.
May we learn to appreciate not only where we are going, but also where we are today.
Have a wonderful week.
