Zelensky Arrives in Washington for Trump Meeting as Senate Moves Toward Tougher Russia Sanctions

All 100 members of the U.S. Senate were invited to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Washington. That was reported today (Tuesday) by Reuters. The Ukrainian president is expected to meet later today with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to the report, during the visit the Senate is expected to hold a vote on a proposal to issue an order imposing additional sanctions on Russia, aimed at hurting the Kremlin’s revenues from oil and gas sales. The move was led by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, and Zelensky came to Washington in part to take part in his memorial ceremony. At the same time, the White House is considering the possibility of granting Kyiv a license for local production of American "Patriot" interceptors, and expanding cooperation in drone manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the Moscow city government announced that Ukraine launched at least 390 drones overnight toward the Russian capital, most of which were intercepted. Russian officials reported fires and damage to buildings. In Ukraine, officials said the attack was a response to a Russian strike last night on a weapons exhibition in the Kyiv region.

Eleven people were killed in that strike, including a 66-year-old man, a diplomat from Malta. Nearly 100 people were wounded in the attack. In addition, the Russians launched missile strikes on the Zaporizhzhia area. Seven Ukrainian civilians were wounded in that attack. Another 3 people were injured, including 2 children, as a result of a Russian drone strike in Bilopillia, in the Sumy region.
