Watermelon? It's Promising

Is watermelon just a summer symbol, or does it hold nutritional value? Surprisingly, it's packed with benefits.

AA

Watermelon consists of about 90% water. The remaining content includes dietary fiber, sugars, and various vitamins such as vitamin C, B vitamins, and others. It also contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium. In addition, watermelon provides antioxidants such as lycopene (also found in red tomatoes), which may help prevent prostate cancer. Together, these components make watermelon a fruit with high health value. It may help lower blood pressure, cleanse the urinary tract, prevent kidney stone formation, support joint health, promote proper bowel function, and more.

Some people use watermelon as part of detox diets. Eating watermelon for one day, or even two, may help cleanse the kidneys and can be beneficial for those who suffer from gout. There are also individuals who consume watermelon as part of a weight-loss regimen.

People who suffer from fungal infections or various skin irritations, as well as those with diabetes, should consult a healthcare professional regarding both the suitability and quantity of watermelon consumption.

Guidelines for eating watermelon

A. It is not recommended to eat watermelon together with other fruits. Although it is commonly eaten with grapes and similar fruits, it is preferable to eat it on its own or with cantaloupe.

B. When consumed as a meal, up to ½ kilogram per person may be eaten.

C. Avoid eating watermelon as a dessert after a carbohydrate-rich or protein-rich meal.

D. It is advisable to eat watermelon only a few hours after a full meal, such as an afternoon snack around 4:00 PM.

E. During the summer, watermelon may be eaten as breakfast.

F. It is not advisable to eat watermelon close to bedtime.

Uses for watermelon

A. In addition to eating watermelon as is, it can be prepared as a refreshing, healthy, inexpensive, and simple popsicle. Blend watermelon pieces, pour the liquid into molds, and freeze. After a few hours, a very tasty popsicle is ready. Some people add a few mint leaves, which greatly enhances the flavor.

B. Watermelon is also very convenient for breaking a fast, due to its high water content and natural sweetness.
