Kashrut of the Badatz Igud Harabanim

AA

Question

With G-d's help,

Hello and blessings,
Can one rely on this kashrut?
We bought cookies with this kashrut from a well-known store, and I am not sure whether this kashrut can be relied upon without concern.
I should mention that I strive to maintain a high standard of kashrut.

Does it adhere to the requirement of Jewish cooking according to the opinion of the Beit Yosef? And is this requirement necessary for cookies?
As asked above, does it count as high-quality kashrut, and can one rely on it without concern?

Thank you very much

Answer

Hello,

1. The kashrut of the Badatz Igud Harabanim (Manchester) is considered to be of a high standard and adheres to the requirement of Jewish cooking according to the opinion of the Beit Yosef.

2. Generally, if we are talking about a type of cookie that, if a meal is established upon them, requires the *hamotzi* blessing and the *bentching* (blessing after a meal)—they are treated like bread. According to the custom of Sephardim, it is sufficient for a Jew to light the fire, and there is no need for him to place the pot. However, if it is a type of cookie that even if a meal is established upon them, the blessing will be *mezonot* and *al hamichya* (a different blessing)—they are treated like a dish, and according to the custom of Sephardim, a Jew must place the pot on the fire. See also in the responsa *Yechave Da'at* part 5 (section 53) and in the responsa *Yabia Omer* part 9 (part Yoreh De'ah section 7).

Best regards,

Hillel Meiris
