Meeting Friends During the Nine Days

Is it permissible to meet with friends during the Nine Days? If so, in what manner?

Greetings,
One should avoid meeting friends during the Nine Days, especially if it includes eating and drinking.
Sources: See Aruch HaShulchan (Orach Chaim 551:8) that even for joy of friendship, it seems prohibitive during the Nine Days.
