Question

Is it permissible to iron during the Nine Days for someone who does not wash during the Nine Days? Is it permissible to knit a kippah during the Nine Days if I started knitting before the 17th of Tammuz? Is it permissible to organize and clean the dining area where we had the se'udat mafseket on Saturday night, and what is generally permitted to arrange and clean on Saturday night? Thank you very much.

- It is forbidden.

Is it permissible to knit a kippah during the Nine Days if I started knitting before the 17th of Tammuz?

- From the beginning of the month until the fast, it is forbidden to sew new clothing - this applies according to all opinions and traditions. Even a simple garment like socks, etc., it is forbidden to sew and weave, and there is no difference between sewing and knitting; both are forbidden.

Is it permissible to organize and clean the dining area where we had the se'udat mafseket on Saturday night, and what is generally permitted to arrange and clean on Saturday night?

- As I understand it, it is permissible to arrange what needs to be arranged to create an atmosphere of settled mind in the home.

With blessings, and may we merit to see the comfort and salvation of Israel,

Rabbi Nachum
