Prayer Against Negative Thoughts
Question
Is there a prayer or something similar against negative and bad thoughts?
Answer
Greetings and blessings,
Recite this prayer every day. In this prayer, there is a special request to be saved from bad thoughts, and it is very beneficial in all matters, including the acceptance of prayers:
May it be Your will, Hashem our God and God of our fathers, that You hear the voice of our cries. And You listen to the voice of the prayers of Your people Israel with mercy. Prepare our hearts and direct our thoughts and send our prayers from our mouths. And may Your ears be attentive to hear the voice of the prayers of Your servants who plead to You with cries and a broken spirit:
And You are a merciful God, with abundant mercies and great kindness. Forgive, pardon, and atone for us and for all Your people, the House of Israel, for all that we have sinned, transgressed, and committed wickedness before You, for it is known and acknowledged before You that it was not through rebellion and transgression, heaven forbid, that we have offended Your mouth and the words of Your Torah and Your commandments. But it is from the overwhelming evil inclination that burns within us always. It does not rest and does not quiet until it brings us to the desires of this lowly world and to its vanities. And it constantly confuses our thoughts, even at the time when we stand to pray before You and to request for our souls. It constantly distracts our prayers and our thoughts with its machinations, and we are unable to stand before it. For our intellect, mind, and heart have weakened exceedingly. And the power of endurance fails from the troubles and distresses and the pressures of time:
Therefore, You are a merciful and gracious God. Deal with us as You have promised us through the faithful of Your house. And have compassion on those whom I will have mercy, and our sages of blessed memory have said. Even though we are unworthy and undeserving, this is Your way to do good to the wicked and the good, for it is known and acknowledged before You our cries and our sorrows and our conversations regarding that which we are unable to bring ourselves closer to Your service. And to bind our hearts to You in truth and sincerity, oh how our souls long, woe to us, our Father in Heaven:
And now, please awaken Your mercies and kindness towards us, to drive away and eliminate our evil inclination from within us, and rebuke it so that it will depart from us, and do not allow it to lead us astray from Your service, heaven forbid. And do not allow any evil thought to arise in our heart, heaven forbid, either when we are awake or in a dream. Especially at the time when we are standing in prayer before You, or at the time when we are studying Your Torah. And at the time that we are engaged in Your commandments, may our thoughts be pure, clear, and strong, in truth and with a complete heart as is Your good will with us:
And stir our hearts and the hearts of all Israel Your people, and the hearts of all those who join us, and the hearts of all those who wish to join our company, to unite with You in truth and love. To serve You with proper service, accepted before the throne of Your glory. And establish Your faith in our hearts always without ceasing, and may Your faith be firmly rooted in our hearts as a peg that will not be uprooted, and distance from us every division that separates between us and You, our Father in Heaven. And save us from all pitfalls and errors, do not abandon us and do not forsake us and do not embarrass us, and be with our mouths at the time of our cries, and with our hands at the time of our deeds, and with our hearts at the time of our thoughts:
And let us be worthy, our Father in Heaven, merciful God, to unify our hearts, our thoughts, our speech, our actions, and all our movements and feelings, known to us and unknown to us, the revealed
and the concealed, that everything be dedicated to You in truth and sincerity without any disqualified thought, heaven forbid, and purify our hearts and sanctify us, and sprinkle upon us pure waters and cleanse us with Your love and with Your mercy, and plant Your love and fear in our hearts always without ceasing, at every time and in every place, in our going and in our sitting and in our lying down and in our rising, may Your holy spirit constantly burn within us. And we will always lean on You and Your greatness and Your love and Your fear. And with Your Torah which is written and oral, the revealed and the concealed, all to unite Your mighty and awesome name:
And keep us from pride and arrogance and from anger and harshness and sadness and gossip and other bad traits, and from everything that disrupts Your holy and dear service to us, and may Your holy spirit inspire us to be attached to You. And may we yearn for You always, more and more, and from level to level may You elevate us, that we may merit to come to the level of our holy forefathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and their merit shall stand for us that You may hear our prayers that we may always be answered at the time we pray to You for us or for any one of Your people Israel, for an individual or for the many, and rejoice and glorify us, and may we produce fruit above and root below:
And may You not remember our sins, especially the sins of our youth, as King David may he rest in peace said, "Do not remember the sins of my youth and my transgressions," and transform our sins and transgressions into merit, and inspire us with a constant remembrance of returning to You with a complete heart. And to rectify that which we have spoiled in Your holy and pure names:
And save us from the jealousy of one man from his friend, and may the jealousy of man not arise in our hearts and may our jealousy not be upon others, rather may we see each one's merits and not their shortcomings, and may we each speak of our friend in a manner that is proper and acceptable before You, and may no hatred arise between a man and his friend, heaven forbid:
And strengthen our connection to You with love, as is known and acknowledged before You. That everything may be a source of delight to You, and this is the essence of our intent. And if we do not have the wisdom to direct our hearts to You, You teach us that we may truly know the intent of Your good will:
And for all this we plead before You, merciful God, that You accept our prayer with mercy and favor, Amen, may it be Your will.
Wishing you success,
